Tommy Boy!

This really is a feel-good story!  This guy was slaving away in an internship here in Collin County a couple of years ago and today he is the athletic director for a mid-major NCAA university… McNeese State to be exact.  Good job Tommy!! Your obedience to the Lord during this time has been a blessing to us all.

First Thanksgiving in McKinney

Well we managed to pull it off!  Actually, Trish and her mother pulled it off.  This was our first Thanksgiving at our home in the five years we have been married.  It was nice.  We didn’t have the full complement of family, but it was special none-the-less.

We did have some friends over that brought a unique element to the day.  Trish went to high school and to TAMU with a guy named Heath.  He works for the Texas Department of Public Safety.  He has done a number of jobs within the ranks of the DPS.

Heath and I first “met” on my way back from a single adult church ski trip to Santa Fe.  I was pulled over for going  Continue reading ‘First Thanksgiving in McKinney’

Good read…

If you haven’t checked out Adam Copeland’s blog lately, you really should.  It is an interesting perspective on life due to his deployment in the USMC.

Click here for a recent and engaging post on his blog.  In the future, you can find a link to his blog to the right on my blogroll.

The Search Is Finally Over!

When I began this blog, one of my first posts had to deal with one of my best friends and his desire to pastor a church.  The process took quite a while, but he now calls Northgate Community Church in Manteca, CA home!  Steven and his family just moved out there and I believe last Sunday was his first official Sunday.  God has been good during this process and has proven his faithfulness once again.

The church and the Cole’s are excited about this partnership.  I expect to hear great things from Central California in the years to come.  If you happen to pray, would you please keep them in your prayers?

2007 PGA Championship

I had the pleasure of attending one of the PGA’s “major” championships yesterday at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa (2007 PGA Championship).  It was only a practice round, but it was pretty special!  I drove up yesterday morning and met my old friend Michael Wilcox and a few of his preacher friends from NW Oklahoma.  I had never been to Tulsa.  The drive was really pretty, but it was HOTT!  Yes, that’s with two “t’s.”  The temperature was over 100 degrees, and when you throw in the wind and humidity it was more like 107 degrees.  UGH!!

The course was beautiful and watching these guys practice was incredible.  There is very little doubt in my mind why professional golfers make as much as they do.  THEY ARE GOOD.  Seeing them in person just reinforces that notion.  The atmosphere was very nice and the Southern Hills/PGA staffers were top notch.  I have attended live rounds at other events (Byron Nelson-Dallas), but being able to liesurely walk around and follow whomever was really quite enjoyable.  I am sure a live round, say Sunday, would be the pinnacle, but the relaxed nature of the practice round afforded us more liberties and exposure to the course and players.

Among the players we “almost” said hello to and “almost” got autographs from were Justin Leonard, Vejay Singh, Davis Love III, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia.  Though I didn’t come away with any those sorts of things, I did find a rogue Titleist ProV1 golf ball.  It was partially buried in between 9 and 18.  I gave it to my boss for granting me the day off.  It was the least I could do…. really, the least!  :)

What is a “Who-dat?”

Allow me to introduce to you some Cajun flair!  I am learning more and more about this culture, as well as the Creole cutlure.  We have a number of friends from Louisiana and they have been gracious to field my obscure questions about this unique (and certainly ‘colorful’) culture!  For those of you outside the Ark-La-Tex, don’t ask… it would take me months to explain – and even then I am not sure I could!!

A Cajun Wedding

(I pulled the previous link because I didn’t realize that file I published this morning was slightly different (music) than the one I had rec’d on email… sorry.  I hope I didn’t embarass myself! I will look for the other rendition because the pictures, by themselves, are Ha-larious!!)

Cajun Wedding (revised) (… be sure to click your way through the show!)

They start ‘em young!
