Some time ago I referenced a desire for us at Water’s Edge to work toward opening a coffee shop that would also host our worship gatherings weekly. That plan has morphed over the last 6 months, but the Grounds of Hope project is still perculating. This whole concept has gone viral. Our Facebook group has eclipsed the 1,000 member mark and there is certainly a buzz around Water’s Edge and FBC.
Please take a moment and check out the website link to the right and investigate for yourself the scope of this dream. Pray about it. You may want to contribute to the movement somehow. As a teaser, here is Jon Glidden giving us some glimpse of the Grounds of Hope impact during his trip to Malawi in January.
In one of my recent posts I referred to the synonomous qualities found in various stories of Jesus and him intersecting with the lives of the poeple of Galilee. That synonomous quality was often water. I challenged the reader to discover their well, river or fountain that they can use as an opportunity to stand in the crossroads of hope and hurt. Well, we have our first winner! Continue reading
April is Transforming Your World month here at FBC McKinney. As a body we are focusing on a number initiatives. These range from world poverty to AIDS-ravaged regions of our globe. There is a definite local flavor as well. The month ends in a week long celebration of sorts. This conference will feature seminars, Andy Flannagan in concert, a third world banquet and a Sunday where the church leaves the four walls and ‘becomes the church’ in our community. The North Campus will focus on about 4-5 efforts on that weekend.
5 ways you can Transform Your World during the week of April 20-27
Go and Be… Learn
Engage in several learning moments throughout the week in seminars on living the extraordinary life, global poverty, understanding AIDS, becoming missional, and much more. Times and locations will be available online.
Go and Be… Worship
Join us for a special evening for the whole family. Come experience live worship with Irish worship phenomenon Andy Flannagan Wednesday, April 24. in the Louisiana St. Worship Center.
Go and Be… Everywhere
The weekend of April 26 & 27, take part in one of the countless opportunities that have been created to “be” the church on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Go and Be… Celebrate
The evening of Sunday, April 27, we will gather together to experience a powerful Third World Banquet followed by a celebration of God’s work throughout the week. NOTE: Dominican Republic team will be commission during this evening.
Go and Be… Giving
Our goal is to release over $300,000 to local, national, and global projects. The world is on our hearts. Give toward the Transforming Your World Offering taken throughout April, concluding May 4.
I spent the last two days at Dallas Theological Seminary attending a quick two-day seminar titled, “Church Beyond the Doors.” Ed Stetzer a Baptist author/consultant that I have read a few times lately was one of the keynotes. He, along with Alan Roxburgh, really challenged a bunch of Dallas-area church leaders in how they engage culture through their churches. Sadly enough there were too many “practical ministry” people there and not enough “theological ministry” types in attendance. So the result is that there will be a bunch of pastors this week getting an email/call from one of their associates about rethinking the church’s approach to missional expression and the guys that needed to hear this two-day talk the most were predominantly absent.
